Exciting news as Frieze celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The Frieze London 2023 marks the most international edition to date and includes a new artist-led section. The event also features new programming at Frieze Masters with Studio and Modern Women.
The anniversary will be accompanied by a dynamic programme of special projects, partnerships, and events. The city of London will be illuminated with an extended programme of cultural events from 9-15 October at galleries, institutions, and artist-led spaces throughout the city.
This year, Frieze London will feature over 160 leading galleries from 40 countries while maintaining a core contingent of London-based exhibitors. A new section, Artist-to-Artist, will see renowned artists propose artists for solo presentations following Frieze London's longstanding tradition of artist-led programming.
The critically acclaimed section for emerging talent, Focus, returns this year along with Editions which will feature a selection of limited-edition artworks by leading international artists.
Frieze Masters will bring together more than 130 participating galleries and will be led by Nathan Clements-Gillespie. The event will span six millennia of art - from rare antiquities to 20th-century masterpieces.
New sections introduced this year include Modern Women, a section dedicated to solo exhibitions by women artists, focusing on works created between 1880 and 1980, and Studio, curated by Sheena Wagstaff, which focuses on the artist's workspace.
Spotlight, curated for the first time by Valerie Cassel Oliver, returns with solo presentations of 20th-century artists, emphasising under-appreciated work from the 1950s to the 1970s. The Stand Out section also returns for the third consecutive year, with a focus on exploring the myriad ways in which colour is key to the aesthetic of art objects and sculpture.
With these numerous additions and returns, Frieze 2023 is set to be a significant event in the global art calendar.
