Artist Spotlight: Soraya Sharghi, an Iranian artist based in New York City, is recognised for her unique blend of various media, including painting and sculpture. Her work is influenced by ancient mythology, particularly Persian mythology, forming a narrative around the theme of power. Rather than merely retelling these mythologies, Sharghi reshapes them to create extraordinary beings, bridging history with her personal imaginary world.

Educated at Soore Art University in Tehran (BFA in painting) and the San Francisco Art Institute (MFA), Sharghi's impact extends beyond her art as she has taught studio classes on personal mythology in painting and sculpture at SFAI.

Recipient of prestigious awards such as the MFA Fellowship from San Francisco Art Institute, the Murphy & Cadogan Contemporary Art Award, the Graduate Fellowship Alternate Award from Headlands Center for the Arts, Sharghi's work is revered worldwide. Her art has graced the halls of institutions like the CICA Contemporary Museum in Korea, Today Art Museum in China, MOAH Museum in Los Angeles, and more.

Her exploration of power, history, and myth challenges viewers to connect with different social and political contexts, truly a testament to her pursuit of a universal language in art.
